Today is the summer solstice, which marks the official start to summer. Although to be completely honest summer isn’t my favourite season. This is mainly due to the fact that the British summertime is so unpredictable. It can be gorgeous and sunny one minute and, just as you get the paddling pool out, the heavens open and you have torrential rain!
Nevertheless I still wait with baited breath for the odd days of sunshine so I can fling open the windows and make the most of the warm weather.
Anyway, here are my top 5 favourite things about summer.
1. Wearing sandals
I’m not a really a lover of feet, however I love being able to slip on a pair of sandals and show of my painted nails.
2. Being able to work, eat and read outside
I love BBQ’s and picnic with the kids as well as being able to chill in the garden with my laptop and write. I also love going to the park and reading.
3. Brighter, warmer days (and nights)
I’m not a lover of the cold. I don’t need tropical temperatures but a bit of heat and some sun always make me more productive.
4. Summer dresses
I love being able to throw on a dress and be ready to leave the house without a jacket. Although I would probably take one anyway just because the good old British weather can be so unpredictable.
5. Chilling with a nice glass of wine
OK, you got me, this isn’t limited to summer but in the warmer months I love nothing more than chilling in the garden with a nice cold glass of white or rose wine.
