Do you love Christmas? I do so when I came across this festive blog tag over at Not a Perfect Parent I just had to add it to my #Blogmas posts.
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
I love Christmas movies and even wrote an entire post on some of my favourites. I spent most of July watching them on the Christmas in July channel. If I had to pick just one though, it would have to be Elf!
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
I’m sure I will have done at some point in the last 40 years, although it doesn’t always last long enough to be memorable.
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
Christmas Day is usually spent at home and both sets of parents come to us for Christmas Lunch. Boxing Day is usually spent at my Mum and Dads where we have a buffet. The rest of the time we usually take it as it comes.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
As soon as I hear the Christmas songs playing in the shops I start feeling Christmassy. My favourite is Fairytale of New York but I love most Christmas tunes. Check out my Christmas playlist here.
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
My OH and I sometimes open one each before we go to bed but the kids don’t open theirs until the morning. That said the elves do usually leave them some small gifts in the Christmas Eve boxes.
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
I can – Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen. Oh and Rudolph, you can’t forget him!
Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
We have loads of traditions. You can read about them in more detail here. If I’m honest, this year has been terrible in terms of planning and I’m majorly behind with my preparations. Because of this the one tradition I’m looking forward to this year will be the Christmas Eve box left by the elves. The reason I’m looking forward to this is that it will mean that Christmas is nearly over for another year and I can try harder next year.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Although I really love a real tree our tree is fake. We had to buy a new one this year too.
What is your all-time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
My Mum’s Christmas Cake. It’s basically a slightly alcoholic fruit cake as she doesn’t ice it as no one likes marzipan, but it is one of the highlights of my Christmas. It’s perfect with a glass of Baileys while wrapping presents; that is assuming there is any left by the time I get around to wrapping presents.
Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
I would have to say giving. I love putting lots of thought into gifts for other people, although I’d be lying if I said I don’t get a little disappointed when all I get back is one of the 3 for 2 smellies from Boots.
What is the best Christmas present you ever received?
I don’t know. I have received some amazing gifts over the years but nothing is standing out from the crowd.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
Although I love the warm weather, I must admit I don’t think that would have the whole Christmassy feel. I would love to take the kids to Lapland and spend a few days in some proper snow. If I could get a log fire with some cosy blankets too it would be perfect.
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
Years ago, before the kids my present wrapping was a work of art, complete with matching bows, ribbons and accessories. It would have looked perfect in a shop window. Nowadays I’m lucky if the entire present is covered with paper and I class it as a win if there is a matching tag!
Most memorable Christmas moment?
I’m trying to think of a memorable moment that doesn’t involve tears and tantrums but I’m struggling. As much as I love Christmas, I do find it a tad stressful trying to keep everyone happy.
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
That would probably be my mum setting off my walking talking doll while she was trying to put it under the tree when I was about 7. After Christmas I asked her if Santa was real and she told me the truth.
What makes the holidays special for you?
The kids. Everything I do throughout the month of December is for the kids (although I do secretly enjoy it too). I love watching their little faces light up at the things we do. It’s even better when they still talk about it year after year.
I’m not tagging anyone this time around but if you want to take part, feel free but please drop me a comment so I can check out your answers.
