Education – #Blogtober17 – Day 5

Welcome to Day 5 of #Blogtober17 where today’s prompt is education. For my post I’m going a little outside the box and sharing with you our favourite books for Halloween and Autumn.

We’re a family of readers and love getting new books. Unfortunately this can be quite a costly hobby, but one I wholly support nonetheless. In order to keep or costs down and to avoid book boredom (you know, when you have to read the same book everyday for a week) we often alternate our books according to subject or season.

If you were around last year (you probably weren’t but not to worry) you will know that I bought several books from Scholastic after receiving one the leaflets from school. You can read all about it here.

Anyway, enough of my waffling. Here are some of the books we will be reading this month, as you will see not all of the books made the cut this year but we have added a few more to the pile in exchange.

Existing Books

Winnie and Wilbur: The Amazing Pumpkin by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul

We loved the Winnie and Wilbur books last year and will definitely be looking out for some more for our collection.

The Scarecrow’s Wedding by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

We read this for the first time this year last night and both Corey and Anya remembered the story from last year. Despite this they both still enjoyed reading it and talking about the pictures.

Spinderella by Julia Donaldson & Sebastien Braun

You can’t go wrong with a Julia Donaldson book. Both Corey and Anya enjoyed reading this last year and loved counting up to 20.

Potion Commotion by Peter Bently and Sernur Isik

This was one of my favourites from last year. I love Peter Bently books so it stands to reason this would be top of my pile.

Winnie’s Haunted House by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul

We loved this book last year, especially the jokes at the back of the book.

New Books

I’m always on the look out for books, whether for myself or for the kids, and very rarely turn down a bargain or special offer. Here are a few new books I’ve picked up this year during sales etc.

Squirrel’s Autumn Search by Anita Loughrey and Daniel Howarth

I can’t remember where I picked this book up but it’s perfect for learning about Autumn. There are three other books in the series covering the remaining seasons and I will definitely be adding these to our collection.

A Very Brave Witch by Alison McGhee and Harry Bliss

This is a cute story about a brave witch who has never met a human until one special Halloween.

A Witch With an Itch by Helen Baugh and Deborah Allwright

This is another rhyming book about a witch who keeps getting an itch when she tries to do spells.

Ten Spooky Skeletons by Garry Parsons

This is my favourite out of the new purchases some of the pages glow in the dark.

I can’t wait to get reading this books again and I excited to see if the kids favourites are still the same. Last year Corey loved the Winnie the Witch books, while Anya preferred Potion Commotion and The Scarecrows Wedding. Personally I have a feeling they will be fighting over Ten Spooky Skeletons but we will see.

What are your children’s favourite Autumn/Halloween books? Drop me a note in the comments
