Managing IBS with Senocalm

For several years now my husband has suffered with IBS. Recently we were given the opportunity to try a new product to help with the symptoms and jumped at the chance. Senocalm claims to relieve and prevent bloating and gas related symptoms such as cramps and indigestion.

Introducing Senocalm

Each capsule contains 125mg of Simethicone and Peppermint Oil. The simethicone works by causing gas bubbles to collapse and collect together forming larger gas bubbles that can pass more easily out of the intestines. This allows the body to process gas in a natural way helping to relieve gas related symptoms.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

So let me start with a little background. Several years ago Rik, my OH, began suffering from various digestive issues. These subsequently led to lots of visits to the doctors, numerous tests, food diaries and an ultrasound. The results concluded he was suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

He was prescribed some tablets and sent off with the knowledge that, although his symptoms could be managed, there was no cure for his IBS.

Over the years we have cut back on bread and dairy products as they are his main triggers. We have also tried several relaxation techniques as stress is also a major contributing factor.

Recently we have found that peppermint works really well to control the symptoms and he has been regularly taking peppermint capsules.

More about IBS

IBS is a common, long-term condition of the digestive system. It can cause bouts of stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and/or constipation.

The symptoms vary between individuals and affect some people more severely than others. Symptoms tend to come and go in periods lasting a few days to a few months at a time.

IBS symptoms can be triggered by certain foods (e.g. fatty and processed foods) and drinks (e.g. alcohol, caffeine and fizzy drinks) as well as stress and anxiety.

The symptoms of IBS can also have a significant impact on a person’s day-to-day life and can have a deep psychological impact. As a result, many people with the condition have feelings of depression and anxiety.

After taking the course of Senocalm capsules Rik noticed a huge difference in how he was feeling. He regularly commented that he didn’t feel as bloated as he usually does. During the period he was taking Senocalm our diet did include quite a bit of junk food so they must have been working pretty well.

He has found that overall the Senocalm capsules work much better for him than any other OTC medication and going forward I think he will be continuing to take them whenever necessary.

Senocalm retails for £5.99 (RRP) for 20 capsules and can be purchased from local supermarkets and pharmacies. More info about Senocalm can be found of the Senokot website.

Have you ever tried Senocalm before? What advice do you have to help improve IBS symptoms?
